National Lottery Awards - 2012 Round open (deadline 12th March 2012)

The 2012 Awards to celebrate the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects are now open to applications. The Awards are open to authorised representatives of projects that have received Lottery funding at any time since 1994. The main beneficiaries of the project must be based in the UK. The winner in each category will receive a cash prize of £2,000, which can be put towards their project. Winners will be determined by a public vote featuring on a special BBC1 television show in the autumn. The deadline for entries is 12 March 2012 (noon).

Impact of Spending Cuts on Communities - A GMCVO Survey

Greater Manchester Council for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO) want to find out how local people and communities in Greater Manchester are faring in a climate of economic difficulty. GMCVO believe that local voluntary groups and the people linked with them have important knowledge of what is really happening on the ground. They want to capture some of that knowledge and use it to make decision-makers aware of the impact of economic downturn on real people.

Volunteer Centre Oldham Goes Mobile!

We now have a satellite Volunteer Centre at University Campus Oldham (UCO). If you are a student at UCO you can find out about volunteering at the main entrance of the University where we have information on the latest volunteering opportunities and how to get involved. Volunteering is a great way to develop new skills, contribute to the local community and get experience on your CV. Now Volunteer Centre Oldham has started branching out into the community there are many possibilities – watch this space for news on other mobile Volunteer Centres!

Volunteer Centre Oldham recieves National Award

Voluntary Action Oldham Volunteer Service has been awarded Volunteering England’s Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA). Since we officially opened in 2010, Volunteer Centre Oldham has committed to delivering a high quality service. Now we have been nationally recognised and welcomed as part of a bigger family offering volunteering infrastructure of the highest quality. 

Grants available up to £40,000 in St. James (Oldham)

Priority will be given to projects in Watersheddings and Moorside

We’re looking for projects & activities that:
Meet the Fair Share Trust local priorities & support the legacy of the Fair Share Trust Improve the local environment
Promote resident—led initiatives
Benefit residents living in the St James area
Innovative ideas

All projects must be complete by December 2012
Minimum grant £5,000
Capital works above £40K will not be considered

‘Keep Cosy’

Age Concern Oldham is working with Oldham Council, Oldham Citizens Advice Bureau, Housing 21 and a range of other partners to deliver the ‘Keep Cosy’ project, funded by the Department of Health, which aims to help people living in cold homes.

New Family Support Service

Positive Steps Oldham has launched a Complex Families Project to support local families with multiple problems. It is a Department for Work and Pensions programme to tackle entrenched worklessness in families.

Adults eligible for support will be those people on work based benefits including:
•Income Support
•Incapacity benefit
•Employment and Support Allowance
•Severe Disablement Allowance
•Carers Allowance
