ERDF Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Support Call

This session focuses on how best to enhance the competitiveness of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and link organisations to research and innovation opportunities in Greater Manchester following the recent ERDF PA1 & 3 Calls for Proposals.

The beginning of the session will focus on reviewing the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Call for Proposals under Priority Axis 3 ”Enhancing the Competitiveness of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs)” and Priority Axis 1 “Promoting Research and Innovation”.

This will cover the particulars of the calls, fund allocation and delivery deadlines, as well as the priorities of the calls, including the Greater Manchester focus, and the Outputs expected from successful applicants.

After a short break attendees will then be split into three groups to take part in round table discussions set across core areas of the ERDF calls.

These include:
1. Understanding Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Led by an expert of SMEs, this group will explore what support SMEs need in order to strengthen an entrepreneurial culture in Greater Manchester and build on existing SME development;

2. Working with deprived communities and underrepresented groups.
Highlighted as a Local Growth Priority in the Greater Manchester Strategy, this group will discuss:

  • What the barriers are to underrepresented groups in setting up a business or enterprise?
  • What support is needed?
  • What the reality of enterprise and business start-ups are in communities?

3. Survival and Growth – working with the Business Growth Hub and other business support provisions.
The third session will explore what support is available to ensure businesses and enterprises continue to grow and what role a delivery organisation has in connecting SMEs to larger institutional support organisations.

Sessions will rotate every 15 minutes with facilitators providing feedback to all attendees at the end of the session.
Individuals acting as topic leads for each of these areas will be announced once they are confirmed.
